ACS72981 Description

The Allegro™ ACS72981 current sensor IC family provides an economical and accurate solution for AC or DC current measurement. The 250 kHz bandwidth makes it ideal for motor control, load sensing and management, power supply and DC-DC converter control, and inverter control. Response times of less than 2 µs allow for overcurrent fault detection in safety critical applications.


The device consists of a precision, low-distortion linear Hall circuit with a copper conduction path near the chip. The applied current flowing through this copper conduction path generates a magnetic field, which the Hall IC converts into a proportional voltage. Device accuracy is optimised by the close proximity of the magnetic signal to the Hall sensor. The low bias, chopper stabilised BiCMOS Hall IC provides an accurate proportional output voltage which is factory programmed for accuracy. Proprietary digital temperature compensation technology greatly improves zero output voltage and output sensitivity accuracy over the entire temperature and throughout its lifetime. The output of the device will increase as current flows through the primary copper conduction path (from terminal 5 to terminal 6). for current sampling. The conductive path has an internal resistance of 200µΩ typical, providing low power consumption and higher power density in the application. The sensor uses differential sensing technology to virtually eliminate output interference due to common mode interference magnetic fields.


The thickness of the copper conductor allows the device to survive high overcurrent conditions. The terminals of the conductive path are electrically isolated from the signal lines (pins 1 to 3).


The devices are fully calibrated before leaving the factory. The ACS72981 series is lead (Pb) free. All leads are 100% matte tin plated and there is no Pb in the package. heavy gauge leadframes are made of oxygen-free copper.
