China Unicom said that the CRVIC Alliance (China RISC-V Industry Consortium) is a highly influential organisation in the RISC-V field in China.
According to the introduction, the alliance is a national, non-profit association organization jointly launched by key enterprises, universities, research institutes, investment institutions and social organizations in the RISC-V field at home and abroad in Shanghai on September 20, 2018 under the guidance and support of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, National IC Innovation Center and Shanghai IC Industry Association.
The goal of the Alliance is to accelerate the organization of R&D in the domestic RISC-V industry, establish China's home-made independent, controllable and secure RISC-V computing platform, and promote the formation of a RISC-V industry eco-chain across IP cores, chips, software, systems, applications and other links.
China Unicom pointed out that RISC-V is an open instruction set architecture (ISA) based on the principle of RISC (Streamlined Instruction Set Computing), which can be applied to the required devices free of charge, and that RISC-V has been widely used in the IoT field due to its advantages of openness and low power consumption. As RISC-V capabilities continue to grow, it will be used in 5G IoT products, including RedCap, in combination with 5G technology.
