The ARM Cortex-A8 processor-based AM3359BZCZA80 microprocessor enhances graphics, graphics processing, peripherals, and industrial interface options such as EtherCAT and PROFIBUS.These devices support the High-Level Operating System (HLOS).The AM3359BZCZA80 microprocessor contains subsystems as shown in the functional block diagram. The Microprocessor Unit (MPU) subsystem is based on the ARM Cortex-A8 processor and the PowerVRSGX™ Graphics Accelerator subsystem provides 3D graphics acceleration to support display and gaming effects.The PRU-ICSS is separate from the ARM core, allowing independent operation and clocking for greater efficiency and flexibility.The PRU-ICSS supports additional peripheral interfaces and real-time protocols such as EtherCAT, PROFIBUS, PROFIBUS, etc. such as EtherCATPROFINET, EtherNet/IP, PROFIBUS, Ethernet Powerlink, Sercos, and others.
In addition, the programmable nature of the PRU-ICSS, and its access to pins, events, and all system-on-chip (SoC) resources, provides the opportunity to implement fast, real-time responses, specialised data processing operations, custom peripheral data processing operations, custom peripheral interfaces, and offloading of tasks from other processor cores in the SoC.
