The BCM56504 has an integrated 24-GbE port and can operate at 10/100 /1000 Mbps. The uplink port can operate in two modes: 10-GbE switching mode and HiGig + uplink mode. The integrated 10-GbE switch ports are CX-4 compliant XAUI™ interfaces. HiGig + uplink interfaces are used to connect larger stacked systems of other StrataXGS devices or backplanes in BCM5675 / BCM5676 switch matrices via multi-slot redundant chassis systems.

The BCM56504 series features high integration and high port density for standalone, stackable and in-chassis enterprise applications suitable for edge, aggregation and core area configurations of the enterprise. and 3G applications such as wireless base stations.

The BCM56504 integrates advanced advanced L3 switching capabilities for cost effective and highly manageable enterprise networks. The BCM56504 performs IPv6 routing and translation services in hardware, allowing IT managers to deploy highly future-proof L3 switches for manageable L3 networks, enabling cost-effective transition from IPv4 to IPv4 over IPv6.
