February 13, - STMicroelectronics is introducing a single antenna matching IC to make RF design easier and faster with Bluetooth® LE SoCs and STM32 wireless MCUs for the BlueNRG-LPS system-on-chip (SoC), as well as the STM32WB1x and STM32WB5x* wireless MCUs. The single antenna matching IC helps simplify RF circuit design.


The MLPF-NRG-01D3, optimised for the BlueNRG-LPS, and the MLPF-WB-02D3, optimised for the STM32WB, integrate the complete filtering and impedance matching circuitry required for an external antenna to achieve optimal RF output power and receive sensitivity. Each device has a nominal antenna-side impedance of 50 Ω. The chip-level package area is small, with a bump pitch of 0.4 mm and a package height after reflow of 630 µm. ST's new antenna matching ICs also have a 2.4 GHz low-pass filter that easily meets the requirements of global radio regulations, including FCC, ETSI and ARIB specifications.


The new IC circuit elements are manufactured on a glass substrate using ST's Integrated Passive Device (IPD) technology, which is designed to minimise signal insertion loss and outperform circuits built with discrete components. The integration of all components on the same chip also ensures consistency in component parameters and quality of the end product. In addition, ST's IPD contributes to faster time-to-market, lower bill-of-materials costs and reduced circuit size.


The BlueNRG-LP and BlueNRG-LPS SoCs, as well as the STM32WB1x and STM32WB5x, include ST's energy-efficient 2.4 GHz RF IP cores with royalty-free protocol stacks and dedicated software tools, making it easy for developers with little experience in RF design to quickly develop advanced wireless products. Both products offer on-chip features such as memory, peripherals, communication interfaces, regulated power supplies, and advanced hardware security features including encryption, memory protection and public key acceleration (PKA).


The BlueNRG-LPx system-on-chip can be used stand-alone or with a network processor and supports Bluetooth® Low Energy 5.3 features including point-to-point and mesh communication, ad-hoc extension and direction finding.


The MLPF-NRG-01D3 IPD is compatible with the full range of BlueNRG-LPx products, including the BLUENRG-3x5Vx, BLUENRG-3x5Ax and BLUENRG-332xx in UFQFPN and WLCSP packages.


The STM32WB5x and STM32WB1x MCUs are wireless dual-core microcontrollers certified for Bluetooth 5.3, Zigbee® 3.0 and OpenThread, with an Arm® Cortex®-M4 processor core handling application tasks and a Cortex-M0+ core dedicated to managing RF communication protocols in WLCSP and To connect to the MCU in UQFN and VQFN packages, ST also offers a different IPD chip.


The MLPF-NRG-01D3 and MLPF-WB-02D3 monolithic antenna matching ICs are available in volume production.
