On November 28th, according to the China Economic Network, Shenzhen Starlink Technology Development Co., Ltd. recently announced that it has completed the first 5G satellite broadband communication link in China in cooperation with the communication terminal simulator manufacturer VIAWAY Communication Technology Company.

According to public information, this is the first satellite Internet 5G link that conforms to the 3GPP (International Standards Organisation) 5G NTN technology standard in China. The technology makes it possible for ordinary smartphones to achieve broadband Internet access through the low-orbit satellite constellation.


According to the person in charge of CMU, the test used CMU's self-developed astronautically-grade 5G NTN onboard digital processor based on the domestic ARM architecture, and VIAW's latest E500 test terminal. The test results show that the terminal can successfully complete the system access and achieve (or close to) the theoretical peak upstream and downstream rates. This is the first technical verification of China's satellite Internet based on the domestic ARM architecture. Following the success of this test, the company plans to complete the in-orbit validation of the technology next year.


Founded at the end of 2021, SMIC focuses on the overall design and product development of low-orbit satellite Internet communication payloads. The astronautically-grade 5G NTN base station used in this test was developed by Stellaris independently.
