According to supply chain sources, Apple will introduce Samsung NAND flash memory chips in iPhones starting in 2023.
On November 23, Apple will introduce Samsung NAND flash memory chips in iPhones starting in 2023, according to supply chain sources.
This suggests that the chip will be used in the iPhone 15 series, but does not rule out the possibility of introducing it into iPhone 14 series production, the sources said. Previously, Samsung has been the main supplier of DRAM chips for the iPhone.
Unlike its rivals, Samsung has not cut production in response to sluggish demand in the NAND flash market, which may be partly due to its entry into Apple's supply chain. In addition, Samsung's perceived ability to absorb the offer cuts and production increases will further strengthen its competitiveness.
Samsung has been supplying components for the iPhone. For example, Samsung made early processors for the iPhone and iPad, RAM memory for various Apple models over the last 20 years, and screen panels for the iPhone 14 Pro. Samsung was an early supplier of flash memory for the original iPhone, but was replaced around 2011 or 2012 by South Korea's SK Hynix - the company Apple has been sourcing flash memory from for more than 20 years.
