[Munich, Germany, 28 November 2024] With PROFET™ Wire Guard, Infineon Technologies AG offers developers advanced protection for modern distribution lines. Compared to conventional fuses, the product family significantly improves the accuracy of line stress characterisation simulations by integrating precise I²t line protection curves, with a choice of six implementation curves depending on the application requirements. Combined with other features, this accurate integrated I²t line protection can replace mechanical relays and fuses while optimising the wiring harness.

PROFET™ Wire Guard in TSDSO-14 Package


These five PROFET™ Wire Guard devices are available in the proven TSDSO-14 and TSDSO-24 packages. The entire family range has full pin-to-pin compatibility internally and is highly compatible with PROFET™ +2 12V devices up to a maximum target current of 27 A. In order to increase the maximum current carrying capacity to 36 A, Infineon is further expanding the family's product line-up by adding another semiconductor device in the fourth quarter of 2025. These devices come with a capacitive load switching (CLS) mode for charging capacitive loads. An adjustable overcurrent detection threshold supports rapid fault isolation from the power supply. An integrated auto-idle mode typically reduces current consumption to 50 µA during stopping while the output stage remains fully on. Built-in sequence diagnostics provide accurate application data across five addresses on a single pin, enabling application integrity testing for functional safety requirements and further optimisation of the wiring harness during retrofitting based on analysis of the wiring protection status during vehicle operation. The devices have been developed and are available as standalone ISO 26262:2018 safety components up to ASIL D safety requirements.


To support the design introduction process, the product family has been integrated into the Automotive Power Explorer available from the Infineon Developer Centre. The simulation tool supports, for example, the evaluation of the system protection capability of PROFET™ Wire Guard devices in a given line and load situation. It calculates the correct resistance values for adjustable overcurrent detection thresholds and selects the integrated I²t line protection curve. The tool also calculates parameters such as kILIS accuracy and power dissipation for the entire product family.
