Nov 6 (Reuters) - The growth of artificial intelligence is driving investment in AI servers by major vendors, potentially fuelling new demand for smartphones and PCs. Flash memory demand is expected to grow by about 2.7 times over the next five years, driven by the AI boom, Kioxia told Reuters on Tuesday.

Kioxia is currently preparing for a major expansion of production at its new Kitakami plant in northern Iwate Prefecture, where the company actually planned to start production last year but later pushed it back to the autumn of 2025. As far as IT Home knows, ArmorMan is currently producing chips in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, and announced in July that it had begun sampling the latest generation of NAND flash memory.


‘By operating the Kitakami plant next autumn, we should have enough space to cope with [skyrocketing AI demand],’ ArmorMan executive vice president Chiharu Watanabe said after a blessing ceremony for the new plant.
