Infineon Technologies AG announces the HybridPACK™ Drive G2 Fusion, setting a new power module standard for traction inverters in the electric vehicle segment.
Affordability combined with high performance and efficiency is the key to a broader market for electric vehicles. Infineon Technologies AG announces the HybridPACK™ Drive G2 Fusion, setting a new power module standard for traction inverters in the electric vehicle segment. The HybridPACK™ Drive G2 Fusion is the first plug-and-play power module combining Infineon's silicon (Si) and silicon carbide (SiC) technologies. This state-of-the-art solution offers an ideal balance between performance and cost-effectiveness, providing more options for inverter optimisation.
One of the main differences between silicon and SiC in power modules is that SiC has higher thermal conductivity, breakdown voltage and switching speed, resulting in higher efficiency, but also higher cost than silicon-based power modules. With the new module, the silicon carbide content per vehicle can be reduced while maintaining vehicle performance and efficiency at a lower system cost. For example, system suppliers can achieve system efficiencies close to those of an all-SiC solution by using only 30 per cent silicon carbide and 70 per cent silicon area.
Product description:
The HybridPACK™ Drive is a very compact power module optimised for hybrid and electric vehicle traction applications, offering a scalable power range of 100 kW to 250 kW within the 750 V and 1200 V classes. The design allows customers to scale performance with heat sink stacks and different chipsets based on the required price/performance trade-offs, while maintaining the same module footprint.
Key features:
Silicon and silicon carbide technology
Scalable power range
Compact module footprint
High power density
Soft switching
Hybrid & electric vehicle traction applications
No re-engineering of the system required
AQG324 Automotive Quality Certification
The HybridPACK™ Drive G2 Fusion expands Infineon's portfolio of HybridPACK™ Drive power modules that can be quickly and easily integrated into automotive components or modules without the need for complex adjustments or configurations. The HybridPACK™ Drive G2 Fusion module delivers up to 220 kW of power in the 750 V class. The HybridPACK™ Drive G2 Fusion module delivers a power of up to 220 kW at 750 V. The module ensures high reliability and improved thermal conductivity over the entire temperature range of -40 °C to +175 °C. The unique properties of Infineon's CoolSiC™ technology and its silicon IGBT EDT3 technology with extremely fast on-state speeds allow the use of single- or dual-gate drivers, making it easy to redesign all-silicon or all-silicon carbide-based inverters into fusion inverters. Thanks to its comprehensive experience in silicon carbide MOSFET and silicon IGBT technology, power module packaging, gate drivers, and sensors, Infineon is able to offer high-quality products and cost savings on a system level. For example, the integration of Swoboda or XENSIV™ Hall sensors in the HybridPACK™ Drive package enables more precise and efficient motor control.
