October 11 - At today's AMD Advancing AI 2024 live event, AMD officially unveiled the new 4nm Ryzen AI PRO 300 series of commercial processors based on Strix Point chips.

The new series features Zen5 architecture CPUs, and AMD has upgraded the core count of both the CPU and GPU. The Ryzen AI PRO 300 series has up to 12 Zen5 cores (note: 4 Zen5 and 8 Zen5c) compared to up to 8 Zen4 cores in the Hawk Point chip-based Ryzen PRO 8040 series.


In addition, the GPUs in the Ryzen AI PRO 300 Series have been upgraded from up to 12 RDNA3 CUs to up to 16 RDNA3.5 CUs.


AMD has also upgraded the XDNA NPU in the Ryzen AI PRO 300 series to version 2, which now delivers up to 55 TOPS (Int8) of AI computation, compared to Hawk Point's 16 TOPS of processing power.


AMD claims that the Ryzen AI 7 PRO 360 delivers a 9 per cent performance improvement over the Intel Core Ultra 7 165U, the last Intel CPU to support vPRO technology, while the Ryzen AI 9 HX PRO 375 delivers 14 per cent faster performance than the Core Ultra 7 165H.
