TDK Corporation (Tokyo Stock Exchange code: 6762) introduces two new 900V components with standard terminals (B58043I9563M052) and soft terminals (B58043E9563M052), extending its EIA 2220 package size for the B58043 series CeraLink capacitors. As electric vehicles with 800V battery voltage become more popular, new components are increasingly sought after with operating specifications that are just right for that voltage. The existing 500V CeraLink series is geared towards 400V inverters equipped with gallium nitride (GaN) transistors or silicon MOSFETs, while the new 900V model element has voltage resistance up to 1kV and is ideal for 800V inverters equipped with silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFETs or silicon IGBTs.

The new capacitor features a surface mount (SMD) design and is small in size at only 5.7 x 5.0 x 1.6 mm, with an effective capacitance of 33 nF at 800V operating voltage. Moreover, in large signal applications such as power converters and inverters, capacitors can reach 56 nF. This right-current bias effect is derived from PLZT (lead zirconate titanate) ceramic media, which is fundamentally different from the negative DC bias effect inherent in MLCC (multilayer ceramic capacitors) with Class II media.

With these characteristics, the very compact CeraLink capacitors are the solution of choice for a wide range of applications, including absorption, filters, flyover capacitors and DC supports in power converters and inverters, suitable for a wide range of automotive, renewable energy and industrial drive applications. Its dissipation factor tan ẟ can be maintained below 0.025, in accordance with AEC-Q200 standard.
