Sensirion, a leading global provider of environmental sensing solutions, has announced the addition of the SFA40 to its formaldehyde sensor portfolio. The SFA40 represents another breakthrough in electrochemical sensing technology, and its compact form factor provides superior performance. Mass production is expected to begin in early 2025.
Formaldehyde is commonly found in wood furniture, flooring, paint and makeup products and is a harmful indoor pollutant. Even in low concentrations, it can irritate the respiratory tract and is listed as one of the carcinogenic chemicals. To address the challenge of low concentration formaldehyde detection, Sensirion developed the SFA40 formaldehyde sensor with high sensitivity and selectivity, which can detect concentrations of formaldehyde as low as tens of ppb and is able to accurately distinguish harmful formaldehyde in environments where other volatile organic compounds (VOCs, such as alcohol) are present.
The SFA40 is an innovative work in the field of formaldehyde detection, measuring only 10 x 13 x 2.4 mm³, and can be seamlessly integrated into indoor air quality monitoring equipment, air purifiers and air conditioners, breaking the space barrier and achieving new application possibilities. Its energy-efficient design is ideal for battery-powered devices, ensuring extended operating life without compromising performance. Based on the successful experience of the SFA30, the SFA40 maintains accurate digital, fully calibrated and compensated output throughout the sensor life.
Sensirion is committed to delivering top-notch quality and performance, and the SFA40 is designed, manufactured and calibrated in Switzerland to ensure higher quality standards without the need for additional calibration. We also focus on third-party certification to verify the accuracy of the SFA40 sensor.

The SFA40 will enter mass production in early 2025.
