Samsung Display: Micro LED panels more suitable for AR devices than OLED
An executive at Samsung Display, a panel maker owned by Samsung Electronics, said that Micro LED panels would be more suitable for use in augmented reality (AR) devices than OLED display panels.
October 17, according to TheElec, an executive from Samsung Display, a panel maker owned by Samsung Electronics, recently said that Micro LED panels will be more suitable for use in augmented reality (AR) devices than OLED display panels.
The head of Samsung Display said that AR displays need at least 5,000ppi and pixel pitch, or the distance between pixels must be 5 microns or less. Previous sources have revealed that Samsung is developing OLEDoS (silicon-based OLED) and LEDoS (silicon-based LED) display panels, with the long-term goal of developing LEDoS with 6,600 pixels per inch resolution.
According to the information, micro LED display technology refers to the display technology that uses self-emitting micron-sized LEDs as light-emitting pixel units and assembles them to drive panels to form high-density LED arrays. Due to the small size of the micro LED chip, high integration and self-luminous characteristics, in terms of display compared with LCD, OLED in brightness, resolution, contrast, energy consumption, service life, response time and thermal stability has greater advantages.
