October 8 - Market research firm Dell'Oro Group has released its report on the overall global telecoms equipment market for the first half of 2022, with preliminary findings showing that year-on-year revenue growth in the overall telecoms equipment market slowed slightly to 3% in the first half of 2022 from 7% in 2021. In addition to the challenges of 5G development, component shortages, the strong US dollar, supplier exits from Russia, and slowing wireless business development in Japan and India were the main factors behind the slowdown in growth in the global telecommunications equipment market.

In addition, while demand for broadband equipment surged in the first half of the year, it was barely enough to offset lukewarm year-on-year growth in the RAN, optical transport and router segments. So while growth is expected to slow in 2022, the slowdown in the second quarter was somewhat greater than expected.

There is variability in the development of markets in different regions of the world. North America and China grew at double-digit and high-single-digit rates respectively in the first half of the year. Market conditions in the broader Asia Pacific region were more challenging, in addition to the European region where, after two consecutive years of healthy growth, total telecoms equipment market revenue growth turned negative year-on-year in the second quarter of the year.

In terms of vendors, the ranking of telecoms equipment vendors remained stable in H1 2022, with the top 7 vendors accounting for around 80% of the market share. In the H1 2022 vendor rankings, Huawei ranked first, Nokia second, Ericsson third, ZTE fourth, Cisco fifth, Ciena sixth and Samsung seventh.

Dell'Oro Group also notes that in the first half of 2022, Huawei's market share in China reached 58%, ZTE 32% and other vendors supply 10% of the market. In overseas markets, Huawei's market share has fallen to negligible levels.

According to the information, Dell'Oro Group forecasts that the global telecoms equipment market revenue is expected to grow by 4% in 2022, a record fifth consecutive year of growth.
