MUNICH, Germany, Aug. 13 -- Infineon Technologies AG recently launched its new PSOC™ Control microcontroller (MCU) family. The family is suitable for a new generation of industrial and consumer motor control and power conversion system applications, including home appliances, power tools, renewable energy products, industrial drives, as well as lighting and computing/communication power supplies. Based on the Arm® Cortex®-M33 core, the new Infineon PSOC™ Control family provides on-board functionality for optimising and accelerating current measurement, waveform generation and real-time performance operations, which play a crucial role in target system applications.
The new Infineon PSOC™ Control MCUs fulfil the company's commitment to delivering high performance and efficiency in the next generation of motor control and power conversion applications," said Steve Tateosian, senior vice president of the Industrial MCU, IoT, Wireless and Computing business at Infineon Technologies. With a large number of on-board analogue functions, high-performance timers, hardware maths acceleration and a rich ecosystem of design tools, the new semiconductor device family will support system designers in delivering innovative, energy-efficient devices for high-volume and professional markets."
Key specifications of the new MCU family include a maximum clock speed of 180 MHz, high-performance analogue-to-digital converters (ADCs), high-resolution (<100 ps) pulse-width modulation (PWM), and integrated CORDIC accelerators for offloading real-time control tasks from the CPU. CORDIC performs true synchronous "idling" of up to 16 analogue signals from a single-core ADC. CORDIC provides true simultaneous "idle" sampling of up to 16 analogue signals from a single-core ADC, with up to 25% faster sampling speed and no sample jitter. This combination of energy efficiency and performance saves material usage (BOM) at the system level, while the deep sleep of less than 10 uA and hibernation mode of less than 1 uA save valuable power for low-power and battery-driven applications.
The Infineon PSOC™ Control family supports innovative power electronics designs based on wide-bandwidth (WBG) technologies such as Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Gallium Nitride (GaN), which both improve performance and further reduce overall system material costs.
