Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX/OTCQX: IFNNY) introduces the MOTIX™ TLE9140EQW grid-level driver IC for brushless DC motors for the demanding 24/48 V market. The TLE9140 is tailored for automotive motor control applications with higher voltage requirements (from 24 V to up to 72 V) that require greater system reliability and faster switching behavior. The IC complements Infineon's MOTIX TM MCU TLE987x and TLE989x 32-bit motor control SoC solutions, and is also suitable for use as a 48-V BLDC driver with MCUS commonly available on the market. Typical applications include pumps and fans, windshield wipers, HVAC modules, or electronic compressors. In addition, the TLE9140 can be used as a three-phase motor gate driver for commercial vehicles, construction vehicles, agricultural vehicles, and light electric vehicles such as electric bicycles, battery vehicles or electric motorcycles.

Andreas Doll, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Smart Power Line at Infineon Technologies, said: "With Infineon's new motor gate driver IC, customers can easily extend their existing 12 V MOTIX TM TLE987x and TLE989x motor control designs to 24 V or 48 V systems. The TLE9140EQW enables software and hardware design reuse, helping customers reduce time to market and development costs when switching to 24/48 V systems."

This gate driver IC meets the ISO 26262 ASIL B standard for functional safety and comes in a small TS-DSO-32 package. The IC has high voltage performance up to 110 V, ~230 nC/MOSFET gate drive performance up to 20 kHz, and SPI communication capability. It also has the V SM overvoltage (OV) active Low side (LS) continuous current function and a variety of important diagnostic and protection functions, such as timeout monitor, drain-source monitoring, overvoltage, undervoltage, cross current and overtemperature protection, and off-state diagnosis.

In addition, the TLE9140 incorporates Infineon's patented grid-shaping feature. This adaptive MOSFET control function can compensate for fluctuations in MOSFET parameters in the system. It can automatically adjust the grid current to achieve the desired switching behavior. This allows the system to optimize electromagnetic radiation (EMI) with a slower conversion rate, while reducing power consumption through shorter dead time and rise/fall times.

To speed up the evaluation and design process, Infineon's MOTIX TM motor control IC is equipped with a variety of software and tools, such as the user-friendly TLE9140 evaluation board for rapid evaluation and prototyping. In addition, Infineon provides the TLE9140 with a configuration wizard and a device driver that provides a simple API for external bridging drivers to generate control frames via SPI. The configuration wizard and device drivers are available free of charge.
