Murata has developed a new low-loss multi-layer ceramic capacitor (MLCC), which supports a rated voltage of 100V and has an ultra-small size of 0402M (0.4 x 0.2mm), mainly for wireless communication modules, and will begin mass production in February 2024.

In recent years, with the popularity of 5G, MIMO(multiple-input and multiple-output, a technology that uses Multiple transmitting and receiving antennas to improve communication speed) has been gradually introduced to achieve the high-speed, large-capacity communication, multi-connection and low-latency characteristics of 5G. In this regard, by using thin layer forming technology based on the particularization and homogenization of ceramics and electrode materials and high-precision lamination technology, Murata has developed an ultra-small low-loss chip multi-layer ceramic capacitor with a size of 0.4mm×0.2mm, which can ensure the operation at 150 ° C and a rated voltage of 100V. Compared to Murata's previous product (0603M size), the miniaturization is successfully achieved, reducing the mounting area by about 35% and the volume by about 55%. It contributes to the miniaturization of wireless communication module. In addition, product miniaturization also helps to reduce the material and energy consumption in the production process.
