Qorvo is traditionally a leading semiconductor manufacturer of wireless RF chips, and their product line has expanded considerably in recent years through a series of acquisitions. In addition to the BLDC control MCU product line, which is very familiar to enthusiasts, there are also analogue, power, sensor and wireless product lines available for the consumer, industrial and automotive markets.Qorvo's product line was presented at Electronica 2024 in Munich, Shanghai.

Highly Integrated RF Solutions

RF solutions for smartphones are on display. At the centre of Qorvo's booth at Electronica Munich, a number of products from its industry-leading RF product line were on display. These include the latest highly integrated L-PAMiD Module, which can be used in 2G/3G/4G/5G multimode modems, mobile phones, data cards or wearables, high-performance communication systems; and the L-PAMiF Module, which can be used in high-end smartphones, tablets, and cellular devices, and which can also be used in Datacards and machine-to-machine (M2M) communication.

Wi-Fi 7 for Consumer Product Lines

In the consumer segment, Qorvo, the industry's leading supplier of Wi-Fi 7 chips, also demonstrated Wi-Fi 7 router terminals based on its products.

According to Jeff Lin, Qorvo's senior marketing manager, Qorvo's Wi-Fi 7 chips support the 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz bands, of which the 6GHz band is not yet open in China. 2.4GHz, the band supported by Wi-Fi 7, belongs to the traditional Wi-Fi band, while 5GHz provides higher speeds and less interference, and 6GHz is the Wi-Fi 6 band. 5GHz provides higher speed and less interference, while 6GHz is a new band added to Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7, providing more channels and bandwidth. This chip has now been adopted by domestic customers and has a very good price/performance ratio with very good competitiveness in a highly competitive market.

The introduction of Wi-Fi 7 is expected to significantly improve users' wireless network experience, especially in high-bandwidth applications such as 8K video streaming, virtual reality and massive online gaming. Although the 6GHz band is not yet open in China, Wi-Fi 7's performance improvements in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands are still significant.

Jeff was describing the market progress of Wi-Fi 7 right now while also showing off a Xiaomi Wi-Fi 7 router. ‘This one is tri-band, 2.4G and two-way 5G, 4 x 4 MIMO configuration, and this one is also our first mass-produced product from Qorvo in China. It's been on the market for more than a year, and it's been working with domestic vendors even before the Wi-Fi 7 standard was fully finalised.’

Qorvo has filter products in the mix in addition to the Wi-Fi 7 FEM. Besides Xiaomi, there are other customers, such as ZTE and Jingdong, that have built-in Qorvo's Wi-Fi 7 power amplifiers. 2024 sees a big explosion of Wi-Fi 7 adoption in China.

Qorvo is now already developing the next generation of Wi-Fi 7 products, planning to further reduce package size and power consumption, and improve efficiency and price/performance ratio, and now there are also new products that will integrate amplifiers and filters inside a single chip, fuelling the official launch of routers with a smaller overall size in 2025.
