Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX/OTCQX: IFNNY) introduces the PSoCTM 4 High-Voltage Precision Analog (HVPA)-144K microcontroller, which addresses the needs of the automotive battery management industry by integrating high-precision analog and high-voltage subsystems on a single chip. It provides a fully integrated embedded system for monitoring and managing automotive 12 V lead-acid batteries, which are important for the 12 V power supply of automotive electrical systems. The PSoC™ 4 HVPA-144K microcontroller is ISO26262 compliant and brings compact and safe intelligent battery sensing and battery management capabilities to modern vehicles.
The PSoCTM 4 HVPA-144K's dual high-resolution analog-to-digital converter (σ-δ-type analog-to-digital converter), together with four digital filtering channels, enables accurate measurement of the battery charge state (SoC) and health state (SoH) by measuring key parameters such as voltage, current, and temperature, with a measurement accuracy of up to ±0.1%. The semiconductor device has two programmable gain amplifiers (PGA) with automatic gain control, enabling full autonomous control of the analog front end without software intervention. Compared with traditional Hall sensors, the battery with shunt current sensors is more accurate.
The integrated 12 V LDO (withstand 42 V) requires no external power supply and can power the device directly from a 12 V lead-acid battery. The integrated transceiver communicates directly with the LIN bus. The product complies with ISO26262 ASIL-C functional safety requirements.
The Arm® Cortex-M0 + MCU on which the PSoCTM 4 HVPA-144K is based operates at up to 48 MHz and has up to 128 KB of code flash, 8 KB of data flash and 8 KB of SRAM, all with ECC. The PSoCTM HVPA-144K also includes a variety of digital peripherals such as four timers/counters /PWM and a serial communication block that can be configured as I2C/SPI/UART.
The PSoCTM 4 HVPA-144K is powered by automotive grade software. Infineon's automotive Peripheral Driver libraries (AutoPDL) and safety libraries (SafeTlib) are developed in accordance with standard automotive software development processes, both compliant with the A-SPICE standard, MISRA 2012 AMD1 and CERT C standards, and ISO26262 standards.
With the introduction of the PSoCTM 4 HVPA-144K, Infineon has laid the foundation for expanding its PSoCTM microcontroller portfolio to include lithium-ion battery management systems for electric vehicles. The portfolio will soon be joined by a number of products for monitoring and managing high-voltage (400 V and above) and low-voltage (12 V/48 V) batteries, further driving future EV applications.
-- Availability
The PSoCTM 4 HVPA-144K is now available. It comes in a compact 32-QFN (6x6 mm²) package with up to 9 GPIOs. To facilitate development, Infineon also offers evaluation boards.
