AFS predicts that by the end of this year, the cumulative reduction in the global auto market will climb to 3,995,100 units.

According to foreign media reports, according to the latest data from the auto industry data forecasting company AutoForecast Solutions (hereinafter referred to as AFS), as of September 4, due to the shortage of chips, the global auto market has reduced production by about 3.1561 million vehicles this year. AFS predicts that by the end of this year, the cumulative reduction in the global auto market will climb to 3,995,100 units.

Global automakers cut production by about 32,900 vehicles last week as chip shortages continued to hit auto production, according to the latest AFS tally. Among them, North America and Europe were the first to lose, but South America, which lost about 16,600 vehicles; followed by the rest of Asia, which lost about 9,300 vehicles; North America lost 6,100 vehicles; and Europe lost 1,000 vehicles.

While companies are signaling long-term optimism about chip supply, it will still weigh on production in the short term. Toyota, for example, said at the end of August that its global production in July fell 8.6% from a year earlier, the fourth straight month of declines, partly due to a shortage of chips.

On August 30, Wei Zhejia, CEO of TSMC, also said that the general shortage of chips costing between 50 cents and $10 is dragging down the development of the $600 billion semiconductor industry. In the auto industry, a 50-cent wireless chip has stymied the production of $50,000 cars, but he did not elaborate.

Chip shortages are expected to continue until at least mid-2023, when the auto industry should start to see "relief in production cuts," said AFS vice president of global automotive forecasting.
