Vishay Intertechnology announces the launch of new AEC-Q200-compliant DC-link metallised polypropylene film capacitors, specifically engineered for demanding environments in automotive, energy, and industrial applications. The Vishay Roederstein MKP1848e operates at temperatures up to +125°C, delivers ripple currents of up to 44.5 A, and withstands Class III temperature-humidity deviation (THB) –60°C / 93% relative humidity per IEC 60384-16 ed.3, maintaining continuous operation for 1344 hours at rated voltage.
This automotive-grade capacitor, featuring high temperature and humidity resistance, is ideally suited for automotive power conversion applications such as on-board chargers (OBC), powertrain systems, HVAC systems, electric compressors, and DC/DC converters. This new generation DC-link capacitor also meets the stringent requirements of energy and industrial power conversion applications, including fast chargers, solar inverters, hydrogen electrolyser rectifiers, battery energy storage systems, motor drives, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).
The MKP1848e offers rated capacitance from 1 µF to 140 µF, with equivalent series resistance (ESR) as low as 1.0 mΩ and rated voltages from 500 VDC to 1300 VDC. Compared to previous-generation solutions of equivalent volume, this device delivers a 25% higher ripple current density. Its compact package dimensions and pitch options as low as 22.5 mm enable volume reductions of up to 40% at 500 VDC and 15% at 900 VDC.
To meet standard high-voltage levels for electric vehicles (EV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), the MKP1848e withstands operating voltages from 250 VDC to 800 VDC for limited durations at +125°C. It also exhibits high thermal shock resistance, withstanding 1,000 temperature cycles between -40°C and +125°C, with a 30-minute dwell time at each extreme temperature. Customised terminals are available upon request.
