7 September: According to ComputerBase, AMD's Director of Chip Technology stated during an interview at the 2025 IFA Berlin that the Arm architecture does not offer superior energy efficiency to x86.

When discussing energy efficiency, the perennial debate between Arm and x86 architectures resurfaces, much like every year. AMD's stance largely aligns with Intel's recent position, as the notion of x86's energy inefficiency was debunked last year. Both AMD Ryzen and Intel Core processors deliver exceptional battery life for laptops while maintaining full access to the x86 ecosystem. Ultimately, the Arm architecture has yet to demonstrate a competitive edge within comprehensive solutions.

Arm's recent influence stems primarily from Apple's M-series SoCs and Qualcomm's Snapdragon X laptop chips, particularly praised for their power efficiency. However, as Intel and AMD accelerate their mobile processor strategies, Arm's relative advantage is diminishing.

Last year, Intel launched its new Lunar Lake processors, while AMD introduced the next-generation Strix Point/Halo APUs. Both deliver performance and battery life that rival Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite offerings. Notably, AMD's flagship Ryzen 9 AI MAX 395+ achieves up to 126 TOPS of computational power, significantly surpassing current Arm solutions.

This does not signal Arm's demise in the PC market. AMD emphasises that x86 will continue to dominate the consumer hardware market for the foreseeable future. Future offerings such as Intel's Panther Lake and AMD's Medusa Point will further reinforce this trend.
