Diodes recently announced the launch of the AP7372 low-noise low-dropout (LDO) regulator, which is used to power precision components such as data converters (ADCs, Dacs), voltage-controlled oscillators (Vcos), and phase-locked loops (PLLS).
The AP7372 has a power supply ripple suppression (PSRR) of up to 90dB over a wide frequency range, and its output noise is extremely low, only 8μVrms. This can help designers reduce the impact of input source noise and meet strict output ripple and noise targets. This is crucial for testing and measurement, communication, industrial automation and medical equipment.
The AP7372 offers an output current of up to 200mA and a differential voltage (VDO) of 120mV. There are five output voltages: fixed voltages of 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V and 5.0V, as well as adjustable voltages as low as 1.2V. The AP7372 has a dedicated pin for connecting an external resistor voltage divider, allowing for fine-tuning of the fixed output. The input voltage range of AP7372 is 2.7V to 20V, and it can be powered through common bus standards such as 12V and 5V or as low as the battery voltage (VBAT) of a single lithium-ion battery.
The AP7372 also offers adjustable soft start time, which can be easily set via an external capacitor, allowing designers to optimize the power rail ramp rise, thereby reducing inrush current and generating a consistent and stable power supply. The current limiter can prevent short circuits and overcurrents and is equipped with built-in thermal protection. The small 2.2μF ceramic output capacitor can ensure stability, and only the input capacitor and the soft-start capacitor are needed to form a complete circuit. The bill of materials cost of AP7372 is low, and it adopts a 1.2mm x 1.0mm U-WLB1012-6 (Type A1) ball grid array package. Therefore, the circuit size is compact and high power density can be achieved.
In addition, the AP7372 offers a startup pin that can be used for system-level control (such as power-on sequencing) and can be turned off for energy conservation when not in use. The turn-off current is approximately 3µA and the quiescent current is 66μA, which ensures that the AP7372 has an extremely low impact on the overall system power budget.
