Global renowned semiconductor manufacturer ROHM (headquartered in Kyoto, Japan) announced today the launch of the "TLR1901GXZ", an ultra-small CMOS operational amplifier that can control the circuit current during operation at the industry's lowest level. This product is highly suitable for measurement amplifiers in small applications such as battery-powered or rechargeable battery-powered portable measuring instruments, wearable devices and indoor detectors.

In recent years, with the continuous improvement of control accuracy requirements for battery-powered applications such as portable measuring instruments and wearable devices, the importance of sensors used to quantify parameters such as temperature, humidity, vibration, pressure, and flow, as well as operational amplifiers used to amplify sensor signals, has become increasingly prominent. On the other hand, against the backdrop of efforts to achieve a sustainable society, the miniaturization and energy conservation of application products have become an urgent task, and the same requirements are also put forward for individual devices. Against this backdrop, ROHM has developed operational amplifiers that meet the three major demands of "miniaturization", "low static current" and "high precision" by further optimizing the "process technology", "packaging technology" and "Nano Energy™ circuit technology" it has accumulated over the years.


The new product achieves an ultra-small size of less than 1mm² by adopting a WLCSP package with a pin pitch reduced to 0.35mm, while also featuring an ultra-low quiescent current characteristic. The circuit current during operation can be controlled at the industry's lowest 160nA (Typ.). As a result, this new product can not only achieve high-density installation in a limited space, but also significantly extend battery life and the battery life of application products.


In addition, the input offset voltage of the new product is particularly prominent in low quiescent current operational amplifiers, with a maximum of only 0.55mV, which is approximately 45% less than that of ordinary products. The input offset voltage temperature drift can also be guaranteed to be a maximum of only 7µV/℃, enabling high-precision operation even in devices that are susceptible to external temperatures.


In addition, if ROHM's ultra-small general-purpose resistors MCR004 (0402 size) and MCR006 (0603 size) are used in combination as peripheral components such as gain regulation for operational amplifiers, the flexibility of the design can be further enhanced. The 0402 size also offers the environmentally friendly lead-free resistor product MCR004E.


The new product has been put into mass production at a temporary scale of 20,000 units per month since June 2025. In addition, the new product has already started to be sold through e-commerce platforms (sample price: 300 yen each, excluding tax). To facilitate customers' initial assessment and replacement research, ROHM also offers adapter boards equipped with ics that support SSOP5 packaging.


In the future, ROHM will continue to promote the miniaturization of its products and further reduce the power consumption of operational amplifiers by leveraging its own ultra-low quistatic current technology. In addition, ROHM will continue to be committed to enhancing the performance of its products in terms of low noise, low offset voltage, and expanding the power supply voltage range, and will contribute to solving social issues by improving the control accuracy of application products.
