ADI Based on user-defined priority and effectiveness, the LTC4421 Priority PowerPath controller is designed to drive an external N-channel mosfet to connect one of two input power supplies to a common output. By definition, the power supply connected to V1 is the higher priority power supply, although this can change dynamically. External resistance divider sets undervoltage and overvoltage thresholds to limit the effective voltage window.

Powerful gate driver quickly switches large external N-channel MOSFETs. Fast switching circuits minimize output drops while changing channels, while preventing reverse and cross conduction. A fast comparator detects input short circuits and quickly turns off the N-channel MOSFETs to minimize interruptions.

External induction resistors set maximum inrush current and limit current. During current limiting, the LTC4421 controls the N-channel MOSFET gate to regulate 25mV across the inductive resistance. When the induction resistor voltage has been adjusted to 25mV for a user-configurable time, the channel is disconnected and a fault is set.
