TDK Corporation (TSE: 6762) has further expanded its TFM201612BLEA series (2.0x 1.6x 1.2mm - length x width x height) thin-film inductors for automotive power circuits, increasing the current to 5.6A. The rated inductance values of the two new components are 0.33µH and 0.47µH respectively. This series of products will start mass production in July 2025.

In recent years, with the popularization of electric vehicles and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) for safe driving, the market demand for inductors used in on-board power circuits has also been continuously increasing. An efficient power supply circuit is the key to reducing energy consumption, which has also driven the rapid development of low-loss and high-efficiency inductor technology. Since the inductors for power circuits need to be installed in the limited space of the ECU, their structure must be small and compact. Furthermore, considering that they must operate in harsh high-temperature environments, maintaining high reliability is equally crucial.


Compared with the traditional TFM-ALMA series products of the same size with an inductance value of 0.47µH, this new product increases the rated current by 16% (5.6A) while reducing the DC resistance by 31% (22mΩ), achieving the highest electrical performance standard. Therefore, the new inductors help reduce power loss and improve the efficiency of power circuits, supporting high-current applications while occupying the same installation space as traditional products. In addition, due to the consideration of operating in the high-temperature environment of automotive applications during the product design stage, the operating temperature range of the new inductor can reach up to +150°C, ensuring high reliability.
