STMicroelectronics has launched automotive-grade Class D audio amplifiers for smart cockpit applications. The overall size of the device is very small and it is equipped with digital input interfaces, which can simplify circuit design.
The new products HFDA80D and HFDA90D are the latest members of STMicroelectronics' high-frequency automotive audio amplifier family, complemating the existing analog input automotive-grade audio amplifier HFA80A. The switching frequency of all products in the series is 2MHz, which can save PCB circuit board space and reduce material costs (BOM). These chips also adopt an innovative architecture that can minimize the number of package pins and external components. They are packaged in a 7mm x 7mm LQFP48 package, with a heat sink placed on top of the chip and equipped with a four-channel 27W output.
The HFDA80D and HFDA90D are equipped with digital input interfaces, which further reduce the difficulty of system integration, simplify the circuit design, and eliminate the analog-to-digital converter to free up more space. The new product enhances audio clarity and has higher energy efficiency than similar devices on the market.
Both HFDA80D and HFDA90D are equipped with I2C bus interfaces, facilitating user configuration and control, and providing high output power for in-vehicle infotainment audio applications. The audio processing delay of the new product is very small and it can be used in active noise cancellation (ANC) and road noise cancellation (RNC) systems.
These amplifiers are specifically designed to address the challenges of the automotive electrical environment and can effectively suppress POP sounds and noise caused by battery voltage fluctuations and switching transients. The spread spectrum function ensures that the amplifier natively complies with the CISPR25 Class V standard. In addition, the new product is also equipped with a wealth of diagnostic functions, including open circuit detection during playback, overcurrent protection, protection against Vcc short circuit or ground short circuit during startup, output diagnosis and overheat reminder. The HFDA90D is equipped with built-in load admittance measurement (DAM) and real-time load current monitoring functions, allowing designers to freely set diagnostic features and ensuring the speaker's outstanding linearity.
