Overview:
The ISL78714 Automotive-grade lithium-ion Battery Manager IC monitors up to 14 batteries in series and is optimized to meet stringent automotive performance, reliability and safety requirements. The device provides all the functions of such critical components in a battery management system, such as accurate battery voltage and temperature monitoring, battery balancing, and extensive system diagnostics.
In a typical configuration, the main ISL78714 communicates with the host microcontroller via the SPI port and up to 29 additional ISL78714 devices are connected together via a reliable dedicated dual-wire Daisy chain. This communication system is very flexible and can be implemented with capacitor isolation, transformer isolation or a combination of both.
There are three battery balance modes: manual balance mode, timed balance mode and automatic balance mode. The auto balance mode terminates the balance after the host's specified amount of power is consumed from each battery.

Battery input range: ±5.0V, negative voltage for bus and fuel cell
Up to 6 external temperature monitoring inputs
Internal temperature monitoring with warning signs
Two universal I/O pins
Automatically sensing the position in the battery pack
Measure and perform all voltage, temperature and diagnostic readings for 112 batteries in less than 10ms
User optional battery measurement average function
14-bit voltage and temperature measurement
Integrated system diagnostics for all critical functions
If the communication is interrupted, the watchdog will turn off the power to the device
Long-term drift: -0.31 log(khrs)
Fully resistant to EMC and transients - excellent hot swappable performance
The available complex device drivers s/w follow the AUTOSAR, Aspice, and ISO26262 ASIL-D development processes.
Renesas provides the configuration and integration of the required MCAL modules for the RH850 MCU
