Advanced imaging solutions provider Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:) TDY is proud to present three industrial CMOS sensors with resolutions ranging from 1.3 million to 67 million pixels, all of which have passed the Delta spatial certification method and radiation tests.

These industrial image sensors were designed, manufactured and tested respectively in Grenoble, France and Seville, Spain, and were screened for aerospace tests at the factory in Grenoble. These CMOS sensors (USVs) selected through space tests are suitable for Earth observation and remote sensing satellite payloads, stellar sensors, surveillance cameras, as well as cameras for spacesuits, lunar probes, lunar rovers, and situational awareness in the space domain. These new products complement Teledyne's existing product line for the new aerospace market, providing new options for scientific research and defense aerospace projects.

Celine Semecas, the product marketing manager of Teledyne e2v, explained: "In the new aerospace field, some system engineers may use commercial shelf sensors. If these commercial shelf products are not screened through aerospace tests, it means they have to bear the risk of failure or malfunction after the products enter the space orbit." The industrial image sensors of Teledyne e2v have been screened through aerospace tests and will be delivered in the form of aerospace-grade products, along with batch verification certificates and radiation test reports.

These three CMOS sensors will undergo complete aerospace screening, product serial number and batch verification tests. According to the mission requirements, they will be delivered as aerospace-grade products and screened through U1 (similar to the ESA ESCC9020 standard) or U3 (NASA's Class 3 standard specifically designed for image sensors). The device has undergone sampling and radiation characteristic tests in dedicated facilities, including single-particle latch-up (SEL), single-particle effect (SEE), and single-particle functional interruption (SEFI) fault or error tests. These image sensors feature rich embedded functions, including sub-sampling, multiple regions of interest (ROI), defect pixel correction, and high dynamic range capabilities.

For star sensors and surveillance cameras, Ruby 1.3M USV is a radiation-resistant 1.3MP (1280 x 1024) global shutter sensor, which is optimized for aerospace systems with limitations in terms of size, weight, power consumption (SWaP), and cost. This sensor with a pixel size of 5.3µm is packaged in a 12.7mm x 12.7mm CLCC and can be used with a low-cost 1/1.8-inch lens. It has extremely low power consumption (≤200mW) and is available in both monochrome and color versions.

The Emerald Gen2 12M USV is a compact 12MP (4096 x 3072) global shutter imaging sensor with a pixel size of 2.8µm, available in both monochrome and color versions. It features extremely low readout noise performance with less than 3 electrons, providing outstanding image quality and capable of operating in high-contrast scenes. It has the ROI function, enabling the Teledyne e2v to provide an 8.9MP ROI image sensor in the same package, thus allowing aerospace engineers to manufacture smaller cameras because they can use smaller optical components. This sensor also features LVDS and MIPI outputs, thereby simplifying integration.

The Emerald 67M USV is an image sensor with a resolution of 67MP (8192 x 8192), featuring a global shutter pixel size of 2.5µm and having high compactness among similar products. This 8K high-resolution device can cover a large area of Earth observation and is also suitable for spatial domain perception applications, enabling it to cover a wider field of view. The Emerald 67M USV has low noise (<3e- @ 12 bits), can provide excellent image quality in low light conditions, and has a frame rate of up to 65 fps @10 bits, capable of providing clear images at an extremely high speed. This image sensor can support monochrome or color video and can be used for multispectral imaging.

Teledyne e2v provides a full set of development tools to simplify the system integration of CMOS sensors and accelerate the time to market for products. These tools include assessment kits, reference designs, radiation reports and aerospace qualification reports. "The Teledyne e2v Grenoble branch has a professional technical support team and a fast response time, providing aerospace engineers with full support from design concept to system release," Celine Semecas added. Furthermore, Teledyne e2v provides long-term supply to customers with long product life cycles.
