Infineon Technologies launched the Arm Cortex-M0+ microcontroller (MCU) - PSOC 4100T Plus, which adopts Multi-Sense technology. This new type of MCU integrates rich analog and digital functions. It has 128K flash memory and 32K SRAM, and adopts Multi-Sense, an advanced Infineon technology that includes CAPSENSE, inductive sensing and liquid level sensing functions. The PSOC 4100T Plus also features higher reliability, as well as a variety of enhanced functions and advanced sensing capabilities, providing a complete solution for system control and human-machine interface (HMI) applications.

The PSOC 4100T Plus can provide a powerful system control and management platform as an independent general-purpose MCU, create intuitive interactive interfaces as a dedicated HMI MCU, and also serve as a single-chip solution for system control and touch HMI.


When used as an HMI MCU, this product supports a variety of sensing applications, including capacitive sensing (for detecting user touch or approach), inductive sensing (for achieving touch on metal surfaces), and machine learning-based (ML) liquid level sensing (for monitoring the presence or liquid level of liquids). And Capsen-based floating touch (used to detect finger touches at a certain distance from the surface), etc., thus it is suitable for creating innovative and user-friendly interfaces.

The PSOC 4100T Plus is a powerful multi-functional platform that supports many applications. Its application fields include:


Household appliances: Reliability is of great significance to household appliances. The PSOC 4100T Plus series has made significant improvements to this key requirement, including leading 6500 V electrostatic discharge (ESD HBM) protection and ±1% internal master oscillator (IMO) accuracy, etc. In addition, with advanced HMI functions such as floating touch, this series has also solved several design challenges, including simpler and more economical stacking, and touch operations at a certain distance from the surface. Relying on the complementary sensing technology combination of Multi-Sense, designers can successfully solve design challenges.


Consumer electronics: The PSOC 4100T Plus series enhances the HMI performance of consumer electronics by providing a compact and efficient sensor design solution. This series adopts the fifth-generation CAPSENSE technology, featuring a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and low power consumption. Moreover, due to its waterproof design, it can operate reliably in harsh environments, including outdoor applications.


Touchpad and touchscreen applications: The PSOC 4100T Plus series offers a high-resolution 2D finger tracking user interface, which can be used to create touchpads and touchscreens. This product features 32 sensor input terminals and supports up to 256 nodes, offering extensive possibilities for design. For example, a touchpad with a surface area of 80mm x 80mm and a rhombus spacing of 5mm can be designed to achieve high-resolution multi-finger tracking. Similarly, the PSOC 4100T Plus can also be used to drive a 4-inch touchscreen to achieve multi-finger touch. Both the touchpad and the touchscreen user interfaces support the built-in configurable gesture engine.


To assist in the development of multi-sensing applications, Infineon provides a complete set of software tools and resources. CAPSENSE Tuner helps designers easily configure and optimize capacitive sensing applications; The "Inductive Sensing Design Guide" and the "Liquid Level Sensing Design Guide" provide detailed guidance on how to implement these technologies; The ML-based liquid level sensing model trainer helps developers solve problems such as manufacturing differences and changes in air gaps of mobile storage tanks.
