NXP's NTAG X DNA NFC-enabled tags combine high-capacity storage, high-speed data transmission, and secure unique NFC (SUN) authentication technology, compatible with all NFC-enabled mobile devices on the market, enabling secure and reliable authentication and seamless connectivity experiences.
28 May 2025 — NXP Semiconductors announced the launch of its next-generation Type 4 Secure Interconnected NFC tag — NTAG X DNA. NTAG X DNA utilises 16KB of large-capacity storage, high-speed data transmission, and Secure Unique NFC (SUN) authentication technology to quickly, conveniently, and securely verify the authenticity of products or devices. NTAG X DNA is designed to help combat counterfeit and substandard products, assist manufacturers in meeting Product Digital Passport (DPP) requirements, and enable secure data transmission between mobile devices via I2C or NFC interfaces. It provides high-security authentication solutions for a wide range of markets, including healthcare, smart home, mobile, gaming accessories and peripherals, and industrial applications.

NFC offers consumers a secure and convenient way to verify the authenticity of products before purchase, thereby enhancing brand trust and combating counterfeit products. This innovative approach aligns closely with the EU's upcoming Product Digital Passport (DPP) regulation, set to take effect in 2027. The regulation requires key information such as product composition, origin, and lifecycle to be recorded in digital form. NTAG X DNA can help securely store and conveniently access this information, enabling businesses to more easily comply with these new regulatory requirements.

NTAG X DNA is NXP's new Type 4 secure connected NFC tag, compliant with the ISO/IEC 14443-4 standard, and supports both NFC and I2C communication protocols. It enables comprehensive device diagnostics through direct connection to an MCU and allows users to access assistance from the cloud using an NFC-enabled smartphone. With 16KB of memory, it securely stores and accesses device information even when powered off, enabling authentication and identity verification. This also enables users to delete sensitive information stored within the tag when the device cannot be powered on, thereby protecting user privacy. Compared to previous generations, the high-speed data transfer rate of 848 kbps not only delivers a seamless user experience but also enhances product performance.
NTAG X DNA is highly secure, having obtained Common Criteria EAL 6+ certification, and supports asymmetric encryption and authentication based on public key infrastructure (PKI). NTAG X DNA is backed by NXP's EdgeLock 2GO service, which provides UIDs and certificates and generates additional certificates.
