PolarFire Core Devices Reduce Pricing by 30% While Retaining Market-Leading Power Efficiency, Security and Reliability of the Classic PolarFire Family
In today's market, bill-of-materials (BOM) costs continue to rise, and developers need to optimise between performance and budget. With a large portion of the mid-range FPGA market not requiring an integrated serial transceiver, Microchip Technology Inc. has officially announced the PolarFire® Core field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and systems-on-chip (SoCs). The new devices are a derivative of the base PolarFire family, reducing customer costs by up to 30 percent by optimising functionality and removing the integrated transceiver. Core devices offer the same industry-leading low-power features of classic PolarFire technology, as well as proven security and reliability, delivering cost savings without sacrificing functionality, processing power or quality.
Designed for the automotive, industrial automation, medical, communications, defence and aerospace markets, the PolarFire Core family features single-particle flip-flop (SEU)-immune performance to meet mission-critical reliability requirements and integrates a quad-core, 64-bit RISC-V® microprocessor (MPU) to provide flexible computing capabilities. In addition, Core devices are designed to be pin-compatible with the full range of PolarFire FPGAs, enabling flexible adaptation to a wide range of design SKUs, adding value to applications where cost-effectiveness is a priority over redundancy.
Recent price increases by many of our FPGA competitors have created new challenges for OEMs that need to get their products out quickly with the lowest cost and power targets,’ said Bruce Weyer, Microchip's corporate vice president for the FPGA Business Unit. Our family of PolarFire Core FPGAs and SoCs directly addresses pricing and power budget challenges, delivering market-leading solutions at great prices.’
Whether implementing real-time control, edge processing or safety-critical systems, PolarFire Core devices are designed to provide engineers with the flexibility and durability needed to accelerate innovation.
