Mingjiada news, August 4, according to Taiwan media reports, according to the investigation, Intel plans to outsource the tGPU chipset in Meteor Lake to TSMC manufacturing. The product was initially planned for mass production in the second half of this year, but was later delayed to the first half of next year due to product design and process verification issues, and the recent mass production schedule was delayed again to the end of next year for some reason, making the 3nm production capacity originally booked for next year almost completely cancelled. Only a small amount is left for engineering verification.
According to the survey, this move has greatly impacted TSMC's production expansion plan, resulting in the first wave of customers for the 3nm process from the second half of this year to next year, only Apple, including M-series chips and A17 Bionic. Therefore, TSMC has decided to slow down its production expansion progress to ensure that the production capacity is not excessively idle, causing huge cost pressures. In addition to formally notifying equipment suppliers to adjust equipment orders for next year, due to the high cost of 3nm expansion, it is expected that this move will affect some of TSMC's capital expenditure plans for next year, resulting in its capital expenditure scale for next year may be lower than this year's 40 billion to 44 billion US dollars.
