March 27, 2025: Nexperia today introduced a 12-channel, 40-V high-side LED driver (IC) compliant with the AEC-Q100 standard. The product has reached the functional safety ASIL-B grade, which is suitable for automotive lighting systems requiring functional safety, and can be widely used in taillights, brake lights, signal lights and interior lighting. This new product launch precisely meets the mainstream needs of automotive manufacturers for LED driver chips that can help make it easier to meet ASIL-B functional safety requirements throughout the system design cycle.
The NEX13120FPC-Q100 offers excellent thermal performance. Under 100 mA current conditions, its voltage drop is only 600 mV, under the same test conditions, this voltage drop is 200 mV lower than similar competitive LED drivers, equivalent to 20 mW power savings per channel, so that the chip operating temperature is reduced by about 5 ° C. Each individual channel of the NEX13120FPC-Q100 is capable of producing up to 100 mA of 8-bit programmable output current. For applications with higher current requirements, these channels can also be paralleled for output. This LED driver uses phase shift pulse width modulation (PWM) dimming technology to achieve better load transient performance while effectively reducing electromagnetic interference (EMI). Its configurable analog dimming and pulse width modulation (PWM) dimming function can fully meet the needs of various applications, including dynamic animation effects.
Through the UART over CAN digital interface, the product supports long-distance communication at data rates up to 2 Mb/s, and the CAN interface can support up to 27 node addresses. The NEX13120FPC-Q100 has a wide range of diagnostic functions, including LED open circuit detection, short circuit detection and individual LED short circuit detection. In addition, if the connection to the CAN bus is interrupted, the configurable watchdog automatically switches the device to a fail-safe state.
The NEX13120FPC-Q100 operates in a junction temperature range of -40 ° C to +150 ° C in a heat-enhanced 24-pin HTSSOP24 package. The NEX13120PC-Q100 is the same as the NEX13120FPC-Q100 and is suitable for applications where there is no specific requirement for chip-level functional safety.
