The SSM6515BCBZRL ultra-low power Class D audio amplifier is optimized for wireless headsets, smartphone headsets, and hearing aid devices. The application circuit requires only a few external components and is powered by a 1.8V (PVDD) power supply and a 1.2V to 1.8V (IOVDD) power supply. Power can be shared through 1.8V signal transmission. The SSM651 amplifier provides 85mW of continuous output power for 16Ω loads with total harmonic distortion plus noise (THD + N) <1%.
The SSM6515 uses a high-efficiency, low-noise modulation scheme that eliminates the need for an external inductor/capacitor (LC) output filter. The solution provides continuous high efficiency even at very low output power, extending battery life compared to traditional headphone amplifiers. The device is capable of driving 16 Ω loads at 55 mW with an efficiency of more than 90% and an A-weighted signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 113 dB. Stable spread spectrum, common-mode pulse density modulation provides lower electromagnetic interference (EMI) radiation emission compared to other Class D architectures.
The digital input function requires no external digital-to-analog converter (DAC). The SSM6515 has a micro-power shutdown mode. When the 1.8V PVDD power supply is used, the typical shutdown current is 6 μA, and it can be automatically turned off when there is no input. The device also has built-in burst and snap suppression circuits to minimize voltage surges at the output during device opening and closing. Inputs support a variety of serial audio formats, including I2S, Time division multiplexing (TDM), and pulse density modulation (PDM).
The SSM6515 operates with an I2C control interface or in standalone mode and is rated for temperatures ranging from −40°C to +85°C. The device has built-in output short-circuit protection.
