Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has introduced a new Cyllene 2 IC to upgrade the VSOP383xx series of preamplifier circuits for mid-infrared (IR) remote control applications in consumer products. These enhanced solutions are available in a 2mm x 2mm x 0.76mm QFN package to replace existing devices in the family in a plug and play fashion, while providing a wider supply voltage range from 2.0 V to 5.5 V, a 37 percent higher dark environment sensitivity, and better performance under strong DC light and Wi-Fi noise.

The Vishay VSOP383xx series of preamplifier circuits are packaged in a compact package to achieve low power consumption over a wider voltage range, thereby extending battery life and saving space on mobile devices. By upgrading components with Vishay's latest proprietary IC technology, long-term product availability is ensured and product delivery to customers is shortened. As a direct replacement for existing solutions - with no mechanical differences and similar electrical characteristics, these devices do not require a redesign of the PCB, contributing to cost savings.

The preamplifier circuit is designed to be used in combination with photodiodes for infrared remote control of TV, stereo, game console, STB, audio equipment, etc. For the remote control function in these products, the device provides enhanced immunity to different types of lamps and provides high immunity to ripple noise on the supply voltage. In addition, the solution is not susceptible to electromagnetic interference at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies, which can cause unwanted output pulses, so it can be placed near Wi-Fi antennas for increased design flexibility, while the device's stability in bright sunlight makes it suitable for outdoor use.

These devices are RoHS compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green compliant, with carrier frequencies of 36 kHz (VSOP38336) and 38 kHz (VSOP38338).

The upgraded preamplifier circuit is now available for sample and mass production, with a lead time of 4-6 weeks.
