March 4, NVIDIA and MediaTek co-developed the first Arm architecture-based PC chip NVIDIA N1X recently unveiled on the Geekbench scoring platform, but its scores raised concerns because they were ‘less than ideal’.
According to Geekbench's test data, the N1X chip scored 1,169 points in the single-core performance test and 2,417 points in the multi-core performance test. This score pales in comparison to Apple's latest M4 chip, which scored 3,831 points in the single-core test and a whopping 15,044 points in the multi-core test. Even the base M4 chip significantly outperforms the N1X, while the MacBook with the M4 Max topped 25,000 points in multi-core performance.
However, it should be noted that the N1X chip on Geekbench is labelled as a quad-core CPU, and was tested in a dual-core, dual-thread configuration, which is inconsistent with the chip's positioning as a ‘high-end’ product. In addition, the chip's default frequency of 3.2GHz may be due to the fact that the chip is still in the early stages of development, so the test results on Geekbench may not reflect the performance of the final product.
NVIDIA plans to launch the N1X chip in 2025, while the more mainstream N1 version is expected to be released in 2026. Both chips will be built on TSMC's N3 process and will be designed in collaboration with MediaTek. While the current score results may be disappointing, NVIDIA is expected to optimise the chips to improve performance performance before their official release, given that they are still in the development stage.
