To address these challenges, SounDigital integrated Infineon Technologies' CoolGaN transistors in its new 1500 W Class D amplifier, which supports 800 kHz switching frequencies and five channels, with Infineon's advanced gallium nitride (GaN) technology. The SounDigital 1500 W Class D amplifier uses Infineon's 100 V normally off E-mode transistors, including the IGC033S101 in PQFN-3x5 and IGB110S101 in PQFN-3x3. Their low on-resistance makes them suitable for demanding high-current applications and significantly improves the sound quality and efficiency of SounDigital amplifiers. Gan-based amplifiers deliver high performance while reducing power dissipation by 75 W and reducing heat sink size by 50%. In addition, the overall system size has been reduced by 40% without compromising performance. CoolGaN transistors further improve audio quality, reducing total harmonic distortion (THD) by 70%, enabling a more accurate and nuanced sound experience, and significantly improving energy efficiency by reducing standby current by 40%.
