[February 14, 2025] Infineon Technologies AG, a global semiconductor leader in power systems, automotive and IoT, announced the creation of a new business unit to drive the company's growth in sensors by combining the current Sensors and Radio Frequency (RF) businesses into a single dedicated division. The new Sensor Units and RF (SURF) business unit is part of the Power & Sensing Systems (PSS) division and encompasses the previous automotive and multi-market sensing and control related businesses.

By integrating its strengths in sensors and RF technologies, Infineon strengthens its own competitiveness and go-to-market strategy by capitalising on cost and R&D synergies, accelerating innovation and creating greater value for its customers. The sensors and RF market is expected to exceed USD 20 billion by 2027 and this strategic initiative will capitalise on this huge market potential. The new business unit takes effect on 1 January 2025.

Dr Thomas Schafbauer, Head of the Sensors Unit & RF business unit at Infineon Technologies, said: ‘There is a growing demand for sensors and RF solutions, driven by trends such as green energy, environmentally safe mobility, and a smart and secure Internet of Things. This dedicated Sensors & RF business unit will expand the scope of Infineon's sales activities and combine our innovative power with more differentiated system solutions for automotive, consumer and industrial customers.’

As devices become more intelligent and autonomous, sensor semiconductors are becoming a ubiquitous component, connecting reality to the digital world: human-machine interfaces (HMIs) and environmental monitors enable context-aware devices; Infineon's high-end microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)-based microphones play a crucial role in smartphones, wearables and smart speakers, enhancing consumer experiences by enabling AI-based language solutions to enhance the consumer experience; Infineon radar solutions enable reliable object recognition in scenarios such as autonomous driving; in the field of electric vehicles and industrial automation, Infineon's magnetic sensors have become a key technology for precise motion control, and Infineon's current sensors improve the energy efficiency of power inverters and batteries.
