Infineon Technologies has introduced PSOC Control, the latest high-performance microcontroller (MCU) family based on the Arm Cortex-M33. Supported by ModusToolbox system design tools and software, this comprehensive solution enables developers to easily create high-performance, efficient and safe motor control and power conversion systems. PSOC Control C3 is available at both entry-level and mainstream levels, offering a wide range of performance, functionality, and storage options that are scalable and compatible. Special MCUS for Motor Control (C3M) and Special MCUS for Power Conversion (C3P) meet the needs of key applications such as: home appliances, industrial drives, robotics, light electric vehicles (LEVs), solar and HVAC systems.

Infineon's new PSOC Control C3 MCU provides real-time control of systems that need to respond to real-time events with low latency and utilization. This new family of MCUS is powered by the powerful Arm Cortex-M33, which operates at up to 180 MHz, and is equipped with a digital signal processor (DSP), a floating-point unit (FPU), and a coordinate rotating digital computer (CORDIC), a mathematical function hardware accelerator for accelerating control loop calculations. This family of MCUS is equipped with a wealth of peripherals, on-chip memory, and a variety of interfaces and pulse width modulation (PWM) architectures.

PSOC Control entry-level MCUS (C3P2 and C3M2) use high-resolution and high-precision A/D converters and timers, while mainstream MCUS (C3P5 and C3M5) use high-resolution PWM (HRPWM), enabling high-performance systems to respond to real-time events with much smaller latency. All four families support the execution of power and motor control loops, with mainstream-level MCUS also adding advanced features for higher switching frequencies and support for power systems using wide band gap (WBG) switches.

The PSOC Control C3 MCU has powerful safety features such as Class B and SIL 2 safety libraries, as well as PSA Certified Level 2 Safety Certification /EPC2 Standard Safety Certification (EPC2). IP protection and device firmware updates are enabled with crypto accelerators, TrustZone, and secure key storage.

PSOC Control is powered by ModusToolbox, a unified ecosystem platform of tools and software solutions. ModusToolbox provides a dedicated ecosystem and software libraries for key PSOC Control applications, Motor Suite and Power Suite. The integrated graphical user interface of both suites not only simplifies the evaluation and training process, but also provides important insights into performance, efficiency and reliability through real-time parameter monitoring. With a dedicated application environment, engineers can quickly identify problems, optimize designs, and enhance overall functionality.

Availability

PSOC Control C3 is now available in 34 entry-level and mainstream MCUS. Infineon will further expand the product line and is currently developing high-performance products and will provide samples later this year.
