The ADBMS1818 is a multi-cell battery stack monitor that can measure up to 18 cells connected in series with a total measurement error of less than 3.0 mV. With a 0 V to 5 V battery measurement range, the ADBMS1818 is suitable for most battery chemistry applications. All 18 battery cells can be measured in 290 μs, and a low data acquisition rate is selected for noise reduction.
Multiple ADBMS1818 devices can be connected in series to simultaneously monitor very long strings of high-voltage batteries. Each ADBMS1818 has an isoSPI™ interface for high-speed communication over long distances, free of RF interference. Multiple devices are connected in a Daisy chain, and a host processor is connected for all devices. The Daisy chain can be operated bidirectional, ensuring communication integrity even if the communication path is faulty.
The ADBMS1818 can be powered directly by the battery stack or by an isolated power supply. The ADBMS1818 features passive balancing and individual PWM duty cycle control for each cell. Other features include an onboard 5V regulator, nine universal I/O lines, and a sleep mode in which power consumption is reduced to 6μA.
