Today, major countries around the world have already launched their 6G communications layouts and are investing heavily in R&D resources. The US wants to overtake them and return to mobile dominance, China wants to continue its 5G dominance, and Europe, Japan and other countries want to seize a dominant position. Countries are not only ahead of the curve, they are also actively working together.

The US has signed memoranda of cooperation with Japan's Beyond 5G Promotion Consortium (B5GPC), South Korea's 5G Forum and Europe's 6G Intelligent Network and Services Association (6G-IA) since 2021. The US Telecom Industry Association has also brought together technology companies such as Google, Apple, Qualcomm and Intel to form the 6G Alliance.

In the EU, the flagship 6G initiative "Hexa-X" has been set up, with a number of major telecoms companies, led by Nokia, working together to focus on six major technological breakthroughs. Japan is the first country in the world to launch a 6G development strategy, and has announced that it expects to complete research and development of key 6G technologies by 2025 and officially launch 6G-related applications and services by 2030.

South Korea's LG Electronics set up a 6G R&D centre, and in 2020 South Korea's Samsung Electronics also released a 6G white paper and passed the world's first 6G prototype system test.

In China, 6G-related research has been carried out as early as 2019.

In June 2019, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, together with the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology, promoted the establishment of the IMT-2030 (6G) Promotion Group, which serves as the main platform for aggregating the strengths of China's industry, academia, research and development, promoting China's 6G technology research and conducting international exchanges and cooperation, and has so far gained extensive participation from domestic and foreign enterprises to promote various 6G efforts and made positive progress.

In January 2022, the State Council issued the "14th Five-Year Plan for the Development of Digital Economy". The plan points out that the forward-looking layout of the sixth generation of mobile communications (6G) network technology reserves, increase support for 6G technology research and development, and actively participate in promoting 6G international standardization work.

On January 5 this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued a notice on January 5 on the adjustment of frequency use planning for microwave communication systems and related matters of radio management, reserving spectrum resources for 5G, industrial internet and future 6G by opening up new millimeter wave frequency bands.
