Anaflash, a developer of embedded AI processors, is reportedly working with a Samsung foundry to develop embedded flash memory IP.
March 10 - Anaflash, a developer of embedded AI processors, is reportedly working with a Samsung foundry to develop embedded flash memory IP.
As part of the process, Anaflash has acquired an exclusive licence from the University of Minnesota to use single polysilicon embedded flash memory.
The technology was originally developed by Professor Chris Kim at the University of Minnesota, who continues to develop the technology for a variety of applications including embedded non-volatile memory, forgery detection sensors and neuromorphic computing cores.
Anaflash, which has worked with the university on in-memory computing AI, says it plans to commercialise the non-volatile memory for battery-powered applications such as medical wearables, wireless sensors and robotics .
Anaflash CEO and co-founder said the flash memory can be built using standard logic processes without any process overhead. This makes the process easy to deploy in "advanced process nodes" without increasing costs.
Anaflash recently closed a funding round led by Mirae Asset Venture Investment and We Ventures, but did not disclose the amount of funding.
Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology has used Anaflash's logic-compatible embedded flash memory IP to manufacture the AI chip, which will be demonstrated at the Custom Integrated Circuits Conference in San Antonio, Texas, from April 23-26.
