The LTC1555LEGN-1.8 provides the power conversion and level shifting required to connect low-voltage GSM and WCDMA cellular phones to a 1.8V, 3V, or 5V subscriber identification module (SIM). The device contains a patented buck/boost charge pump DC/DC converter* that provides a stable VCC supply voltage for the SIM card. The input voltage can vary from 2.6V to 6V, allowing direct connection to the battery. The output voltage can be set to 1.8V, 3V, 5V or connected directly to the VIN pin.
An internal level shifter allows controllers operating from supplies as low as 1.425V to be connected to 1.8V, 3V and 5V SIMs. A soft-start feature limits inrush current at turn-on, mitigating start-up problems that can occur when the input is supplied by another low-power DC/DC converter. 32μA of operating current and 1μA of shutdown current maximise battery life. A small 16-pin narrow-body SSOP package and only three small external capacitors are required to minimise board area.
