The PI7C9X3G1632GP is a PCIe GEN3 packet switch that supports 32 GEN3 SERDES and is flexibly configured from 2 ports to 16 ports. The architecture of a PCIe packet switch allows for flexible port configuration by assigning a variable channel width to each port. A basic unit of the switch architecture, called tile, consists of eight ports and 16 channels.

The PI7C9X3G1632GP consists of two tiles connected via an internal signal path. Each tile can be configured to have different port types, such as upstream ports and downstream ports, to support various port configurations for fan-out applications in single switch or dual switch partitioning modes.

In addition to fan-out, there are designated ports that can be programmed as cross-domain endpoint (CDEP) ports to allow multiple hosts to connect to the switch for failover or multi-host computing and communications applications. Inside the packet switch, multiple DMA channels are embedded to facilitate more efficient data communication between hosts.
