The ATSAM3A8CA-CU is a member of a family of flash memory microcontrollers based on high-performance 32-bit ARM® Cortex®-M3 RISC processors. The microcontroller features a variety of connectivity peripherals, including dual CAN interfaces and high speed USB (HS USB) MiniHost, as well as devices with physical layer on chip (PHY). The device uses a 256KB dual-storage configuration with 512KB of flash memory.

The architecture is designed to support high-speed data transmission, including multi-layer bus matrices plus SRAM dual memory areas, direct memory access (DMA) channels, and peripheral DMA controllers (PDC) for multi-tasking applications.

The SAM3A series is well suited for the industrial embedded market as well as network applications in home and building automation, smart grid and industrial automation.
