The TPD4S311/TPD4S311A USB Type-C Port Protector is a single chip USB Type-C port protection device that provides 20V VBUS short circuit overvoltage and IEC ESD protection. A number of USB Type-C products and accessories have been released on the market that do not comply with the USB Type-C specification. One example of these is the USB Type-C power delivery adapters that provide 20V on VBUS lines. Another issue regarding the USB Type-C connector is that the mechanical twisting and sliding of the connector can short out the pins due to the extreme proximity of the pins in this small connector. This could result in a 20V VBUS short to the CC and SBU pins. In addition, and more seriously, because of the close proximity of the pins in the Type-C connector, debris and moisture can cause a short circuit from the 20V VBUS pin to the CC and SBU pins.
